Celebrating 85 Years Of Calor Gas

85 years hamper
At every stage of our company’s history, we've contributed to initiatives and programmes that benefit local communities and the wider society.

As it’s our 85th anniversary this year, we’ve been doing loads, not only to celebrate this momentous occasion, but to also continue our involvement in community projects, backing charities and supporting the wellbeing of our employees.

We have always been involved in supporting rural communities and those who live and work in them. This year in particular, as it’s our 85th birthday, we increased the total amount available in our Rural Community Fund to £85,000, to help more worthy causes. Organisations which won the £1,000, £2,500 or £5,000 pots of grants will be able to use the money to fund much-needed projects, such as purchasing new equipment for community spaces or building new facilities for families nearby to enjoy. You can see our list of winners here and check out their wonderful projects.

As well as marking our 85th year by awarding funding to community groups, we also wanted to share the joys of living in the countryside. So we are currently inviting people around the UK to post images of their views on our social media channels. Whether that’s a picturesque garden, shots of some of the local wildlife, or time spent with loved ones, share your picture with us on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages, and you could be in with the chance of winning an Amazon voucher, the value of which we’ve increased to £85 to celebrate our birthday milestone.

Of course, the best part of any birthday celebrations is the cake.
Calor’s very own star baker, Susi Gallion, Personal Assistant to our Marketing and Sales Director, baked a wonderful cake and gifted it to a  local Warwick resident, Mr Thomas O’Connell, who was also celebrating his 85th birthday this month.

On the morning of his birthday, Susi hand delivered the cake to his home, (whilst observing all social distancing regulations). His family visited him throughout the day, and his granddaughter, Clare, said: “I think it was amazing that someone can do something so kind! We are so grateful. Susann and Alice [from Calor] turned up to the house, safely came in and presented my Grandad with the beautiful cake. It was enjoyed by the whole family who came in throughout the day.”

Even though we couldn’t share the cake with our colleagues or celebrate together, we found a way to celebrate in style!  We sent out surprise gift hampers to all of our staff, to enjoy a luxury afternoon tea with their families. The hampers contained cookies, scones, chocolates, tea and a Dundee cake, along with a tote bag, birthday card and some exciting stories told by Calor colleagues, of their favourite memories over the years.

We may have come a long way since Ritchie Gill started the company in 1934, but our commitment remains the same – caring for the communities we’re part of. If you don’t believe us, we hope you will be more convinced once you’ve watched the time-lapse video of how Susi spent hours creating the cake for Mr. O’Connell and his family.
