Power your winter with Butane

Family sat in the living room with a portable heater powered by Calor Butane

Whether you're staying at home or working; keep warm this winter, with Butane.

As the nights draw in the temperatures drop, all we want to do is snuggle up in the warm. Butane is the perfect fuel for doing just that. Easy to use, ideal for indoor use and cost-effective, you won't find a better option.

Butane in winter has more uses than you'd think and is a popular fuel. Available in a range of different gas bottle sizes, from 4.5kg to 15kg, you can pick the right Calor Butane bottle for your equipment and needs.

Home is where the heat is

Butane indoor heaters are popular, compact, easy to use and fast working, they’re great to warm up a room quickly. The cost savings available for only heating the space you need and not the whole house is clear.

It’s impressive how long a 15kg butane gas bottle will last. Installed in a typical cabinet heater, you’re looking at around 50 hours of constant heat with all three bars working. Cut that back to 1 bar, and you won’t need to refill your Butane gas bottle for around 150 hours, not bad at all.

Ideal for those who like to keep control of their costs or only need one room warmed at a time. On-the-spot heating can help keep heating bills down this winter.

If you have a home gym or workshop, a Butane heater can be essential to your warm-up routine. Fire up the indoor gas heater and chase away the winter chill as you get to work.

Safety first: check your appliance(s) safety manual and instructions before use, and ensure you are using the appliance in a suitable location.

Storage:

  • All bottles should be disconnected from appliances when not in use
  • Store all gas bottles upright and keep them out of direct sunlight
  • Ensure the gas valve is fully closed
  • Keep away from other flammable sources
  • If stored in a motorhome or caravan, ensure that the bottle is secure and can't move around or fall over

Before and during use:

  • Check the bottle for any signs of damage before use, if any is found, replace before use
  • Check the bottle valve and appliance regulator for damage before use - remember you must replace the regulator after 10 years.
  • Connect the appliance regulator to the bottle valve firmly
  • Turn on the gas and check for leaks before using the appliance

After use:

  • Turn off the appliance or if using a mobile heater turn it off at the regulator, and ensure that the flame is out
  • When the flame is out, disconnect the regulator and remove the appliance regulator from the bottle completely

If you smell gas:

  • Evacuate the area, leaving doors and windows open

Butane Vs Propane

Butane and Propane are the most common types of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). In fact, if you’ve ever used an indoor heater, gas BBQ, patio heater, or gas camping stove you’ll have used LPG.

Both gases are very similar as they are colourless, low carbon, and highly efficient fuel, so what’s the difference? Mostly they differ in where they’ll be used and how they are stored.

Propane turns into a gas at a much lower temperature than Butane, making it more suitable for outdoor use. You’ll often find a Propane Gas Bottle being used for gas BBQs, patio heaters and similar appliances. As well as central heating and cooking. Propane must be stored outside, and you’ll find it in larger storage capacities in both gas bottles and bulk LPG tanks.

Butane, by comparison, is in smaller containers and suited to use inside. You can find Butane in indoor gas heaters and for outdoor camping equipment in the summer.
