5 things you didn’t know about Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG)

With energy consumption at its highest at this time of year, businesses in rural areas are often prompted to consider changing their energy supplier or fuel source. But if you are worried about the works involved or how the change will affect your hotel, restaurant or pub operations, here are some facts about switching to liquid petroleum gas (LPG) to help put your mind at rest:

1. Save the waterworks

If you’re currently using oil for heating and hot water, you don’t have to rip out the whole heating system to switch over to LPG. All that is normally needed is to replace the oil boiler with an LPG one, which would also eliminate odours from heating oils.

2. Continuous supply

Whilst LPG comes in gas bottles for some appliances, a more convenient option for many businesses is to have a bulk tank installed on site. These tanks use telemetry technology to monitor usage and automatically schedule the next delivery when levels are low. Beautiful views and site aesthetics won’t be spoilt either, as tanks can be screened (with certain safety restrictions) or installed below ground.

3. Easy installation

Your chosen LPG supplier can manage all the civil works involved in installing a bulk tank, from concrete bases to installing underground pipework. A site survey is always carried out to ensure that the storage option selected is suitable, and the supplier will work with you so that the works go as smoothly as possible.

4. Cleaner and greener

If sustainability is important to your guests, and you wish to use a more environmentally friendly fuel, consider this: LPG is the cleanest fossil fuel around and emits 16% less carbon per kWh compared to heating oil. What’s more, using LPG boilers, plant and equipment will also make the transition to BioLPG – a fuel that is chemically identical to LPG but manufactured from a blend of waste, residues and sustainably sourced materials -– much easier in the future.

5. Safe and secure

A recent report about crime in the countryside revealed a rise in almost every type of rural crime in almost every area of the UK. Thankfully, LPG is virtually impossible to steal, unlike oil which can be siphoned off. Your LPG supplier also works with you at the start of the project to ensure that the location of the tank, and the conditions around it, are safe and secure.
