LPG Installation Options

LPG Tank: Options, Sizes & Installation

Underground tank

If you would prefer to have the LPG tank hidden from view an underground tank is ideal. The only thing that is visible in your garden is a handy green cover that provides access to our delivery driver for when it's time to refill your tank.

Out of sight. Out of mind. We can place your tank underground for only £1500.*

Can I Have It?

LPG Tank Size: Our standard underground LPG tanks hold either 1500, 2000 or 2100 litres of LPG; with our engineers picking the most suitable for you based on a range of factors.

LPG Installation: The LPG tank installation will then be undertaken by our expert engineering team; and can be placed in most locations providing that the following guidelines are met;

  • Your underground LPG tank requires a minimum trench of 600mm deep and 200mm wide. There must not be cables or services within this excavation area.
  • The turret of your tank must be at least 3m away from buildings, boundaries and fixed sources of ignition. The excavation must also be 2m away from neighbouring buildings.
  • Your tank cannot be sited directly underneath electrical power cables, and no services can pass through the excavation, including water pipes.
  • We recommend using the excavated material, with any sharp stones removed, as backfill once your underground tank has been sited.
  • Your tank must be accessible for deliveries – this requires a minimum gateway width of 2.75m, a minimum access road width of 3, safe access for our driver to get from his vehicle to the tank and direct line of sight for the driver to be able to see his vehicle whilst he is standing at the tank.

Once your LPG tank has been installed; the land above the tank may be turfed, shingled, etc; although no continuous concrete or tarmac covering can be used. The area immediately around your tank should remain clear of debris, overgrown vegetation and fixed sources of ignition such as barbecues.

Calor Compact

The Calor Compact is a great alternative to a gas tank, comprised of 4 x 47kg LPG cylinders, housed in a subtle storage unit and fitted with a telemetry device, giving you a continuous gas supply. The perfect solution for those with limited space.

In addition if you make the switch to Calor from another fuel source, the Calor Compact is free to install.*

Can I Have It?

LPG Tank Size: Our latest storage option is the Calor Compact, holding around 370 litres of LPG; a discrete way of safely storing gas cylinders to supply your heating and cooking needs.

LPG Installation: The cylinders and cylinder storage storage unit will be installed by our expert engineering team; and can be placed in most locations providing the following guidelines can be met;

  • Your Calor Compact must be sited against a wall or building structure with at least 30 minutes fire resistance
  • It must be positioned on firm, level ground in a well-ventilated area, where they are reasonably protected from accidental damage or interference, and remain accessible at all times
  • You cannot house your Calor Compact in a basement, cellar or sunken area.
  • There needs to be a minimum of 1m horizontally from the nearest gas cylinder valve to fixed sources of ignition, unprotected electrical equipment, excessive heat sources or doors, air bricks, ventilation ducts, flue terminals and openable widows.
  • There needs to be a minimum of 2m horizontally from the nearest gas cylinder valve to untrapped drains, unsealed gullies and openings to cellars

Once the Calor Compact is installed; the area around your gas cylinders needs to be kept clear of litter, vegetation or flammable materials.

Above-ground tank

An above-ground LPG tank is ideal for most locations, the tank is installed on a concrete or prefabricated base.

In addition, if you make the switch to Calor from another fuel an above-ground LPG tank is free to install.*

Can I Have It?

LPG Tank Size: Our standard above-ground LPG tanks hold either 1500, 2000 or 2100 litres of LPG, and we choose the one most suitable for your needs taking into consideration your planned usage, location, etc.

LPG Installation: The LPG tank installation will then be undertaken by our expert engineering team, and can be placed in most locations providing the following key guidelines are followed;

  • Your LPG tank must be 3m away from buildings, boundaries and fixed sources of ignition. If your property does not allow these distances to be met, they can be reduced to between 1 and 1.5m with the use of a suitably designed ‘fire wall’. We would advise such a fire wall should be precisely specified by a Calor Specialist.
  • As LPG vapour is heavier than air, your tank should not be positioned within 3m of unsealed drains or gullies.
  • Your tank needs to be accessible for deliveries – this requires a minimum gateway width of 2.75m, a minimum access road width of 3, safe access for our driver to get from his vehicle to the tank, and direct line of sight for the driver to be able to see his vehicle whilst he is standing at the tank.

Once your LPG tank is installed, the area surrounding it needs to be kept free from debris, overgrown vegetation, trees, sheds or fences within 3m. Your tank can be shielded from view using an appropriately designed and maintained screen, if desired, although the screen must be a minimum of 1m from the tank and cannot hinder tank ventilation.
