What to expect

Be a part of an exciting future

Rural energy is a part of our DNA, powering off-grid homes and businesses for nearly 90 years. And over the years, we’ve learnt to keep it simple. Keeping our customers safe, warm and working all year round.

And just as our customers matter to us, so does our planet. So much so that we’ll be offering 100% sustainable energy solutions to all our customers by 2040.

It’s no easy feat, but our amazing people are making our ambitions a reality. We have over 2,000 people working for us, with over 16,300 people across 25 countries working for our parent company, SHV Energy. We’re part of a passionate global community, innovating the way for energy across the globe.

You’ll be immersed in a culture that cares for our customers, our planet and our surrounding communities (spending one day a year volunteering in your local community). We have big plans for our business. And with big plans come exciting opportunities for talented go-getters to join our team.

The best jobs offer more than just competitive pay. With us, you get a package that looks after you today whilst securing you for the future. *

  • Annual salary review

Your salary will be reviewed annually (at least), making sure it’s competitive with the market.
  • Healthcare

We offer private medical insurance through BUPA for all colleagues, with the option to add family members at corporate rates. We’ll also cover expenses for eye tests and glasses every other year, and annual flu vaccinations.
  • Family-friendly policies

You’ll get your full salary for 26 weeks (6 months) while on maternity or adoption leave, along with a phased return to work of 60% hours for 100% pay for 6 weeks, and for 2 weeks full pay while on paternity leave.
  • Life assurance and income protection

You’ll be covered for four times your basic annual salary for life assurance and 50% of salary for up to 5 years on our income protection, giving you and your family peace of mind.
  • 25 days’ holiday

Increasing with length of service. Plus bank holidays, of course. And if you’d like some extra days off, you can also buy up to one week’s holiday.
  • Yearly bonus

If you’re a driver or in a senior role, you’ll get a bonus for performing well (up to £2,000 for drivers).
  • Pension scheme

After two years, we’ll match the amount you put into your pension pot by up to 7.5%. And before that, we’ll match it by up to 4.5%.
  • Wellbeing

You can speak to a mental health counsellor any time, day or night, through our Employee Assistance Programme. And it’s always confidential. There’s also access to our Wellbeing Centre promoting healthy living, eating and mind.
  • Discounts

You’ll have access to our exclusive discount marketplaces, saving money from over 400 brands, including Calor products and appliances and also benefiting from deals from our suppliers and customers.
  • Cycle-to-work scheme

You can get a new bike worth up to £4,000 for much less than the selling price (saving up to 47% of the total cost). And instead of paying for it in one lump sum, you’ll pay for it monthly.
  • Refer a friend or family member scheme

If a family member or friend refers you and you get the job, they’ll get £500 as thanks. Then when you join the team, you can do the same.

What we stand for

Our recruitment process

How we hire

Finding your dream job at a company that shares your values can be a whirlwind. So we’ve made it simple. Here’s what to expect when you apply for a job with us.

Step 1

Find the right role for you

Have a scroll through our job roles to see what excites you. Spruce up your CV and hit apply. We’ll be waiting on the other side to see what you’re all about.

Step 2

Let’s have a chat

If our recruitment team thinks we could be the perfect match, they’ll drop you an email or give you a call. If you’re not the right fit this time around, we’ll still be in touch to let you know.

Step 3

Getting to know each other

If you’re selected for an interview, you’ll meet our hiring manager so you can get to know each other. They’ll want to know all about you, your skills and what makes you tick. And you can fire away any questions you might have about us and the job.

Sometimes, we may ask you to do assessments or a second-stage interview. But if this is the case, our recruitment team will let you know when they initially call you. You’ll also be told what to expect and if you need to prep anything.

Step 4

Decision time

We’ll get in touch to let you know if you’ve been offered the job. And we’ll always provide feedback (if you’d like it).

If it’s a yes from both of us, we’ll send you your contract and get your start date set in stone. And when it’s signed, our recruitment team and hiring manager will get you all set for your first day.
