Project description

Describe your project
The kitchen in High Easter Village Hall is in need of a total refurbishment. It is in very regular use and it is more than twenty years since the last major overhaul. One of the most important items is the electrical range that covers all the cooking requirements for functions as well as for small regular usage. As part of this project we are seeking to replace the range.

How will your project benefit your local community?
The village hall is the centre of the High Easter community particularly since the village pub closed. The kitchen is essential for most of the hall users. These include the pre-school group that use the hall from Monday to Friday in term time and the village groups like carpet bowls, a dance group and karate who use the hall in the evenings. In addition to this, the village hall committee run events during the year where catering for large numbers from the kitchen is essential. Members of the village community often hire the hall for children's parties, anniversaries etc and catering from a well equipped kitchen is very important to secure these bookings.

Please give details of any support you have from your local community
We are supported by a wide cross section of the village community at village events ranging from the annual fete or quiz nights to our regular hall opening on one Sunday lunchtime each month. In addition, the hall has close links and is well supported by the Parish Council and the Parochial Church Council, who both utilise the hall facilities.

How big is your community? And how many people will benefit from your project?
The majority of hall users will benefit from the refurbished kitchen. These range from the current regular users, the pre-school and societies on a daily and weekly basis to events that are supported by large numbers from ours and neighbouring villages for the fete, Easter egg hunt, harvest supper and special evening events put on by the hall committee. Our own village alone has a population of approximately 750. and we are well supported by neighbouring villages.

Tell us what you intend to spend the money on.
We plan to purchase a new kitchen range. The Rangemaster Professional + 110 Electric Range Cooker has been selected as most suitable. The cost is £1,679.00. If we are fortunate enough to receive £1,000 from the Calor Rural Community Fund, the balance will be provided by High Easter Village Hall funds, that are built up and retained for capital projects.

When and why was your project founded?
We have had an on-going series of projects for improvements to the village hall over the past ten years. The refurbishment of the whole kitchen area is our current project. Replacing the existing kitchen equipment is an essential part of this whole project.
