Project description

Describe your project
Our community have created a Community Benefit Society, a not for profit organisation, to purchase the local pub to create an inclusive community hub to provide services for the community. Kingstone Community Society is a community led project for the provision of a business and services in the rural community. It will provide services which do not currently exist therefore growing and developing the rural economy. This project will also provide employment opportunities, and a place for potentially selling local farm produce.( via shop, café and public house). This project will create jobs in the pub/ café / restaurant services sector. (none exist today)

How will your project benefit your local community?
This project will benefit community of Kingstone and the wider community, by allowing access to services, and becoming a focal point for the community hub/pub. Reducing Rural isolation, creating community involvement and rural employments are key benefits to this project. This project will create jobs in the pub/ café / restaurant services sector. (none exist today). Health and wellbeing in rural communities is vastly improved by lessening isolation, this project will provide a safe place for all the community to benefit, offering much needed services. Challenges facing mainly the older community and those less mobile is the feeling of isolation. This is a rural community with poor public transport links.

Please give details of any support you have from your local community
A massive £127,350.00 has been generated in shares bought by the local community, we have had several public meetings attended by 100 residents each time, volunteers have pledged to help with the refurbishment of the building, we have had several fund raising events very well supported by the community

How big is your community? And how many people will benefit from your project?
Within the rural farming community, the village of Kingstone has 629 residents, all of which will be able to access and directly benefit from this project

Tell us what you intend to spend the money on.
We need to update the building to current fire and health and safety regulations, with safe and hygienic flooring and create a disabled toilet

When and why was your project founded?
The KCS formed October 2018, Kingstone Community Society has been registered with the Financial Conduct Authority as a Community Benefit Society. The aims of the Society are to purchase the Shrewsbury Arms, Kingstone and to run this as a Community hub for the village and surrounding community, through community involvement
