Project description

Describe your project
We have an immediate need for a DWC. We are making improvements to allow access for all at our fantastic volunteer-led youth football club and share these facilities with other groups including a Ladies team, families, supporters, allotment users, the general public of all ages (neither Ogwell nor Denbury Parishes have a DWC available at all times. Our next phase is to create a new fully accessible WC along with upgrades and refurbishment to changing rooms to make safe, accessible and hygienic. There is no facility for people requiring an accessible toilet. The location is rural and away from village centres and there are no alternative facilities. We want to create a new fully accessible toilet in a former store. The improvements will act as catalyst to reinvigorate the playing fields and facilities allowing wider use and access for all. We need funding to create the DWC.

How will your project benefit your local community?
The facilities will immediately benefit Ogwell Youth Football Club, a wholly volunteer led club for children aged 5-11, which relocated to Denbury Playing Fields as the Club expanded. We currently have disabled Committee members/parents/supporters with no access to a toilet. 3 other teams play at the ground including a Ladies side. The playing fields are also used by the general public, dog walkers, children, families and allotment users. There is also a Rifle Club adjacent the site. The aim is to allow all these mixed users access to the improved toilet facilities. The site is owned by Denbury & Torbryan Parish Council with whom Ogwell Youth FC have developed a partnership approach to improving facilities at the site. There are no DWC facilities available for public access in either Denbury Parish or Ogwell Parish. Ogwell does not have any playing fields or sports facilities of its own. Ogwell Youth FC volunteers have already improved the kitchenette and storage sheds through use of club funds and contributions from the Parish Council. We believe that it is important that everyone has access to the facilities whether playing, supporting football matches or undertaking other leisure activities.

Please give details of any support you have from your local community
Denbury & Torbryan Parish Council is fully supportive and funded some works to date. Ogwell Parish Council are supportive. A local County Councillor has allocated funds towards the project. Local Contractors and Suppliers have pledged labour and materials at cost. The Ogwell Parish Plan 2007 identified need for playing fields and for improved facilities for young people. Committee and coaches are volunteers and along with parents are committed to making improvements to benefit the Club and wider community. We also have support from another football club. We also plan to raise additional funds through crowdfunder.

How big is your community? And how many people will benefit from your project?
In short this benefits everyone providing dignity and accessibility to all. Combined Parishes of Ogwell & Denbury have circa 3500 population plus the facilities have users from further afield with visiting teams and supporters and other users of the playing fields.

Tell us what you intend to spend the money on.
We intend to strip out a current shed store, line out the walls and floors with insulation and hygienic wipe clean paneling, install a DWC pack with toilet, basin, taps, handrails etc, new door with RADAR compatible lock. This would require additional funding of £2500 already pledged by a Local Devon County Councillor, Stuart Barker. Any other funds we raise as a Club we will spend on additional facility improvements at the playing fields. We will look at other opportunities for this including Crowdfunder. If successful with this application we will have sufficient funds to commence work immediately.

When and why was your project founded?
In 2018 we established a need for a DWC as we had Club users with a need but no locally available facility. We also want to make the facility available to the whole community. We have been improving other facilities on site.
