Fixed cylinder installations

OPSO valves

A new step to keep you safe

We’re doing all we can to protect our customers

That’s why, as part of our ongoing commitment to safety, we’ve been evaluating fixed LPG cylinder installations. This highlighted some opportunities to improve the safety equipment installed on cylinders.

Any fixed LPG cylinder installation supplied by Calor (regardless of the number of cylinders) must be fitted with a regulator featuring a built-in Over Pressure Shut Off (OPSO).

We’re advising customers to check their fixed cylinder installation to see if it has an OPSO device (Over Pressure Shut Off) fitted. The OPSO is a crucial piece of safety equipment for all LPG powered domestic or commercial dwellings that can be easily identified.

If you have ageing LPG equipment, it’s more likely you will not have an OPSO.

Please note that most customers will not need to take any action, as the vast majority will already have an OPSO device fitted to their installation. However, we’re advising all our customers to check for their own peace of mind.

Next steps

Review your cylinder installation

While Calor Gas cylinders belong to us, the regulators, including the OPSO device, belong to the property owner, who is responsible for ensuring that they are in safe condition.

Each regulator or Change Over Valve will have a data plate (as shown below), detailing the pressures and gas type that the valve is suitable for. This will clearly state if it has a built-in OPSO.

If it states OPSO on the data plate, then there is no further action required. If it doesn’t, we recommend that you contact an LPG qualified Gas Safe registered engineer to install an OPSO to your installation.

You can find your local LPG qualified engineer here.

Discounted OPSO Devices

We have arranged a 10% discount on the Calor branded 2-Cylinder Automatic Changeover Valve with OPSO for your LPG qualified Gas Safe installer through Hamilton’s Gas Products. Simply visit the website below and your chosen installer can get a discount on the equipment.

Visit appliances.calor.co.uk, search for product code 601295 and apply discount code: CEPROPSO in the shopping basket.

Driver checks on delivery

From 18th October 2021, our drivers will carry out safety checks on fixed LPG cylinder installations each time they deliver your cylinders. As drivers are not permitted to carry out any work or adjustments on your equipment, should we find that an OPSO regulator hasn't been fitted we will remind you on each delivery via a leaflet and log this on our systems.

We will move to a policy by 31st March 2022 where we will not deliver gas to installations without an OPSO regulator, but we’ll give all our customers affected the opportunity to upgrade their system in time.

Pipework checks

Time for a pipework check?

Liquid Gas UK have created a handy pipework check tool to help you identify any problems with your pipework. If you'd like to talk to us about the results of your pipework check, or if something doesn’t look right with your pipework, please give our team a call.

LPG tank replacements

Providing you with the best of the best

Especially when it comes to our LPG tanks

When our experts think that you’re ready for a LPG tank replacement, they’ll be sure to install one for you right away.

As an added bonus, your gas will only be switched off for a short period of time so you can carry on with your day as usual. Plus, all of the gas contents will be quickly transferred to your new LPG tank. And the whole installation will only take up to three hours, so it’s pretty speedy.

If you have been informed that you are due an LPG tank replacement and would like to arrange a suitable date for this, please fill out our LPG Tank Replacement contact form below.

All that we ask, in advance of your tank replacement, is that you could please remove any obstruction, vegetation or screening from around the tank and provide at least 1 metre clearance on all sides. Find out more about tank screening. This ensures that we are in compliance with the Liquid Gas UK codes of practice.

Apart from that, you can leave the rest to us.
