Describe your project
Our village wishes to erect two bus shelters on concrete bases, for which we have County Council approval. These will provide a safe place for our villagers to wait and protect them from both the weather and the dangers of the unrestricted "A" road. The fumes, back-draught and spray from the fast traffic make waiting for the buses quite a hazard so a partial glass wall in front of them would protect them from these. Funding for the shelters is almost complete and now we need to fund the bases so that work can start.
How will your project benefit your local community?
The A146 Norwich Road is a very busy trunk road and the bus stops are completely exposed to the elements. Our school and college children use the buses every day as do many elderly people to access doctors, hospital, shops etc. there being no facilities in the village. Following the death of one of our school boys alighting from a bus four years ago the village has been raising money to provide a refuge from the traffic for these vulnerable residents. . Having bus shelters would make life much safer and healthier for our bus users. The concrete bases are a requirement of the Highways approval, for attachment of the shelters, and this is the purpose of our appeal.
Please give details of any support you have from your local community
Being a small hamlet we have only a Parish Meeting and not a Parish Council and with no precept we qualify for a County Council grant and the District Council have indicated that some help will be forthcoming for the shelters. The village have been fundraising eg raffles etc and our village charity are also supporting us.
How many people will benefit from your project?
A survey was carried out recently of bus usage and it was calculated, from the forms which were returned, that there are a minimum of 2496 journeys a year. People from surrounding villages also walk through the lanes to use the buses but we have not included these in the figures.
Tell us what you intend to spend the money on.
The money will be spent on the concrete bases for the bus shelters costing £ 1590.00
