Three years ago the committee began a campaign to build a new village hall as the old one was in disrepair, unsafe and also could not allow disabled people.
We raised funds to start the build project in September 2016, from village hall funds raised over several years, fund raising events, donations from two benefactors and donations from people in the village.
The village hall committee confirmed that the hall be procured in two phases. This would reduce the cost and enable community involvement.
The first phase, enabled us to place a contract with a building contractor to provide the groundworks, structure and external finishes to enable all structurally significant and external works elements to be completed. This work to rebuild the village hall started in September 2016 and will be completed in April 2017.
The second phase will be carried out to finish the internal part of the building through wide community involvement. The community have offered the Village Hall Committee their willingness to help with plastering, carpentry, decoration, general manual labour, project management, tea making and moral support. The village also has offers of voluntary help from professionals who have skills in plumbing and electrical engineering, as well as carpentry and plastering. Phase 2 work started on 18 March 2017. The project we are looking funding for is the new kitchen. We want to ensure that anyone using the hall has the right facilities for whatever occasion the hall is being used for, be it a training class for young and old, social function or a meeting room. This new facility will ensure we have the village hall kitted out with exactly what a new village hall needs when we open to the public in July 2017. www.shutfordvillage.com
