The Facts About LPG – Usage, Storage and Heating Your Home
If you’re about to relocate to an off-grid home, you’ll probably want to know more about LPG. We often receive questions from people moving to the country, who want to learn more about how LPG works, and whether or not it’s a good option for their property.
To help answer your questions, we’ve put together this useful guide.
LPG offers a lot of benefits for off-grid homes, which is why it’s steadily growing in popularity. It’s a highly efficient form of energy, and even better, it produces far less carbon emissions and pollutants; which is great news for our planet.
It’s also a gas – which means it’s a lot harder to steal than oil or solid fuel; and when you choose Calor as your supplier, you won’t need to worry about running out, as all our tanks are fitted with an automatic top-up system.
LPG Tank Installation & LPG Storage options
A lot of people worry about storing fuel – and imagine that their tanks will take up a lot of space in their off-grid home. You’ll be pleased to know that our above- and underground tanks are designed to be unobtrusive. Here’s some more information about them.
Above ground tanks. Our above ground tanks are a popular option, as they’re simple to install (and free!).
Underground tanks. If you prefer your tank to be concealed from view, an underground tank is a good option. The only thing you’ll be able to see is a small green cover on the ground. It’s through this cover that our delivery driver will refill your supply.
Compact cylinders. If space is limited, our compact cylinder solution is the perfect option. The cylinders are positioned in pairs, and when one runs out, the change-over valve automatically switches to the next one. That means your supply is seamless. What about topping up?
Running out of fuel is a common worry, and rightly so – after all, no-one wants to be without heat for their home! Calor’s automatic top-up system ensures you’re never without fuel, and it also saves you the hassle of continually having to check your LPG levels.
How does it work? It’s very simple, but highly effective. When your LPG levels are low, an alert is sent direct to Calor. Once we receive this notification, we’ll top up your supply – without you having to do a thing!
Living off the grid – appliances
Did you know that you can also use your LPG gas supply to power some of your appliances? There are a lot of advantages to using LPG appliances, as they’re often more energy-efficient than standard models (1) which is great news for our planet.
