Better Business Environment

Ongoing Transparent Development

Calor is committed to the involvement and ongoing development of all our employees. Our approach is based on fairness and transparency.

We ensure that training and development programmes are available for all our employees and that all those with the desire and enthusiasm to develop are enabled to do so. Calor is proud to have been continually accredited as an Investor In People since 1999.

Calor’s Sales Academy encourages personal development and best practiceAll our employees are covered by our Equal Opportunities policy and, particularly important given the nature of our business, receive Safety, Health and Environmental training as part of their induction with the company and at regular intervals thereafter. Evidence for the success of such training can be found in Calor’s safety record. The number of reportable accidents in 2004 was less than half those reported in 1998. Calor strives to maintain and continually enhance its positive safety and environmentally conscious culture in the workplace. In addition to training for employees and contractors, the company produces policy documents including Safety For You, Your Guide To Safety, Health and Environment, and Your Guide to Sustainable Development.

All Calor staff are permitted at least one day off each year, on full pay, to participate in community activities under Calor’s Community Action programme. Projects in 2005 included voluntary work in schools such as painting and redecoration of community facilities, Calor site visits for school children, installation of recycling facilities and landscaping of school grounds.

Communication is Key

A quarterly newsletter, Calor Excite, communicates Calor’s activity and invites comment and feedback from employees and, as part of the worldwide SHV Group, Calor shares news on SHV’s activities through two quarterly publications, SHV Gas News and Sharing News. In addition, our Talk Back Scheme is available for all staff members to suggest ideas for improvements across all areas of the business. As well as monetary rewards, special Merit Awards are presented each quarter and annually, for ideas that have been implemented.

Calor’s Talkback scheme rewards staff for business improvement ideasOur Employee Assistance Programme is funded by Calor and provides a free advisory service for all staff on any personal issues such as finance or health. All Calor sales staff participate in our Sales Academy, which focuses on personal development as well as recognising, rewarding and implementing best practice.

We are also undertaking a programme of employee training that acknowledges the important issue of the work-life balance and aims to ensure that Calor personnel enjoy a balanced, sustainable and healthy lifestyle.

As a responsible employer, we actively encourage saving for retirement and operate a defined contribution pension scheme to which new employees are joined automatically. Employee savings are supported by competitive company contributions.
