LPG Appliances

LPG appliances must be installed by a competent person in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, British Standards, Codes of Practice and National legislation. For both domestic and commercial installations, a CORGI LPG-registered installer should be used.

Only LPG appliances or equipment carrying the CE mark should be used unless the appliance is outside the scope of the Gas Appliance Directive.

Open flued or flueless appliances require adequate ventilation for safe operation. On no account must air vents be restricted or blocked, as this could lead to incomplete combustion producing
Carbon Monoxide, this is toxic and could have potentially fatal consequences.

Appliances should be serviced according to the manufacturers recommendations by a competent person (i.e. CORGI LPG-registered with suitable ACS qualifications), to ensure safe and efficient operation. This should be carried out at least annually.

Installing a LPG appliance is an expert job and by law, ALL gas installation businesses must register with CORGI in order to comply with the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998.

CORGI

CORGI logoCORGI, The Council for Registered Gas Installers, has been the watchdog for gas safety for almost 30 years.

It is the body given responsibility by the Health and Safety authorities to maintain a register of competent gas installers in Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man.

Registration is now a legal requirement for businesses and self employed people working on gas fittings or appliances. There are approximately 44,000 gas installation businesses employing around 95,000 gas fitting operatives.

Calor is a current member of CORGI and have a number of its employees operatives named as competent persons ranging from Cabinet Heater servicing to installation of LPG storage equipment.

Calor also ensures that contractors who carry out work on its behalf are suitably competent and CORGI registered.

Corgi is able to offer a number of useful services to its members including a technical helpline, consultancy, and its own website.
