Changing Cylinders

Connecting and Disconnecting

These cylinders have a ‘female’ valve connection. Check that the connection is clean and undamaged. Always use the correct size spanner and fully tighten (left hand thread).

Connecting to a Propane cylinder 3.9kg, 6kg, 13kg, 19kg and 47kg sizes

Check that the valve handwheel is OFF by turning clockwise.

Remove protective plug and leave hanging to replace later.

Inspect the bullnose connection on the regulator for damage before connecting.

Fit the connecting nut (left hand thread) to the cylinder, using the correct spanner. Note that Propane cylinder connections must be tight.

When gas is required, turn the valve handwheel anti-clockwise.

Turn the valve handwheel OFF (clockwise rotation).

Except multi-cylinder installations with a changeover valve, turn off the gas tap if fitted to the appliance. Wait until the burner and pilot lights have gone out. For installations with a changeover valve, it is only necessary to turn off the empty cylinder.

NEVER REMOVE the regulator (or connecting nut) with the cylinder valve open.

Remove the Regulator (or connecting nut-left hand thread) with the correct spanner.

Connecting and Disconnecting Patio Gas Cylinders

Connecting a Patio Gas Cylinder

There are several different types of regulator that work on the principles shown to the right. Please refer to the instructions of your regulator for details specific to your model.

1. Make sure that you are using an easy clip-on regulator.

2. Make sure that:

  • The regulator is switched to the 'off' or disconnect position
  • All taps on the appliance are closed
  • The connecting pipe to the appliance is correctly fitted

3. Put regulator on top of the cylinder valve. Place your hand on top of the regulator and push down firmly and vertically until you hear a click.

4. Once the regulator is correctly fitted, switch to 'on' position as directed by manufacturer instructions on the regulator.

Disconnecting a Patio Gas Cylinder

1. Make sure the regulator is turned to the 'off' position and that the appliance flame is extinguished.

2. Push the on/off switch according to manufacturer instructions and then pull upwards.

3. REMEMBER: Do not attempt to disconnect the cylinder if the regulator is in the on/open position.
