Energy for Country Life - Solutions for Today and Tomorrow
Solution for today: LPG condensing boiler and solar thermal water heating system
Calor have been providing heating and hot water solutions for rural communities for nearly 75 years, and it is our intention to ensure that Calor LPG remains a viable fuel a long way into the future – meaning homeowners can carry on enjoying the benefits of this very versatile fuel, and installers can continue to specify it.
Solar thermal heating systems are a popular renewable energy product on the market today, meeting today’s building regulations cost-effectively. They utilise the sun’s radiation – the most abundant energy source available to us, to heat a household’s hot water, from the shower to the dishwasher. Combining an LPG condensing boiler with solar thermal water-heating reduces fuel bills with annual savings of around 20 per cent per annum1.Calor LPG is the fuel of choice for non-mains gas areas, with the lowest carbon emissions of any fossil fuel available.2
Working together to provide today’s solutions.
Calor are always investing in new technology to keep customers warm, and have joined forces with Baxi to offer even more. Committed to innovation, technology and excellence since 1866, Baxi provides a wide range of low carbon technology for the home.
How does it work?
Solar thermal flat plate collectors or evacuated tubes are positioned on the building’s roof. They absorb energy from sunlight, and in some cases, daylight. This energy is transferred into a fluid, which is circulated around the system, heating up to 50 per cent of the home’s hot water, from the washing machine to the bath.

Did you know?
Solar panels can provide effective energy even on grey days. For optimum benefits flat plate collectors should be installed on a southfacing roof, angled between 35° and 45°. Evacuated tubes can be installed on a pitched or flat roof as well as building façades.

Tomorrow's technology: LPG CHP fuel cell boiler
Revolutionary new fuel cell technology means the LPG Fuel Cell Boiler will transform how you power a home in the countryside. One single domestic appliance will be able to simultaneously generate heat and electricity as well as cutting annual household carbon emissions.Calor LPG is the fuel of choice for non-mains gas areas, with the lowest carbon emissions of any fossil fuel available2.The technology is scheduled for launch in 2012.
Working together to provide tomorrow’s sustainable solutions.
Calor have been delivering solutions for off-mains gas areas nationwide for nearly 75 years. Our dedicated LPG technicians, CalorForce, will be able to install, service and repair your LPG Fuel Cell Boiler. Calor are always looking for solutions to meet tomorrow’s sustainable energy needs, and have joined forces with Ceres Power to offer even more. Ceres Power is an alternative energy company, specialising in combined heat and power products, based on fuel cell technology.
How does it work?
Each fuel cell starts life as a simple stainless steel plate perforated by thousands of tiny holes and coated with thin layers of ceramic ink. In use, air passes down one side of the plate, while fuel passes down the other. Both electricity and heat are generated through a quiet, efficient electrochemical reaction.A number of fuel cells are combined into a fuel cell‘stack’, which can generate most of the power needed by a typical UK home in a year.
The stack is integrated with a high-efficiency LPG boiler into a single wall-mountable unit which looks just like an ordinary boiler. At the back there are connections for fuel, central heating, hot water and power.Your home is connected to the mains power grid as normal.Your LPG Fuel Cell Boiler can be connected to your existing heating controls and will even look after you in a power cut.
Did you know?
The LPG Fuel Cell Boiler will provide up to 80 per cent of the electricity required by a rural home, and can reduce household CO2 emissions by up to 50 per cent.
