Your customers need your advice
A survey carried out in last year’s Well Connected has revealed that homeowners are increasingly relying on local installers for expert advice and support when looking to ‘go green’.
Calor analysed over 500 questionnaires completed by domestic heating engineers working with both LPG and natural gas. More than 67 per cent of respondents said they are receiving regular requests for renewable solutions,particularly solar thermal water heating, and are frequently becoming involved in system design as well as installation.The survey also showed that 74 per cent of installers believe domestic consumers are not well informed about renewable solutions.
Over 85 per cent of installers said that solar thermal water heating, working in conjunction with a gas fired boiler (LPG or mains gas), is the most popular renewable, with 57 per cent revealing they are currently involved in an installation of this type.
When questioned about other renewable options, 82 per cent of installers said they believed biomass was the least popular fuel and equipment choice with consumers, followed by ground source heat pumps at 69 per cent.
Clearly there is an increased interest in renewable solutions,with solar thermal water heating being the most popular. And, as our survey has revealed, homeowners are relying on installers for their knowledge and expertise on both product selection and system design – so being well-informed on renewable technologies, and investing in the relevant training courses,could present installers with many new opportunities.
