Energy efficient light bulbs last up to 12 times longer than normal ones and use a fraction of the energy.
For each bulb you fit, you can save up to £7 on your annual electricity bill, or £65 over the lifetime of the
bulb - not a bad return on an initial outlay of just £5
per bulb.
Energy Supply companies often run special promotions on energy efficient light bulbs. To find out more visit www.saveenergy.co.uk or call your local EEAC on 0800 512 012.
Energy saving light bulbs come in lower wattages, because they use a lot less energy than conventional bulbs.
Alvin says: “This is one of the simplest measures you can take. To maximise savings, install energy efficient light bulbs in areas of your home where they’ll be used most - probably family rooms and the outside security light. The bulbs are available from most high street retailers, or check out your local energy provider as they sometimes run energy efficiency promotions!”
Draught Dodgers
A simple measure like draught proofing the gaps around doors and windows can make your home a more comfortable place to be, and can shave another £15 off your annual heating bill. Fill gaps between the floor and skirting boards with newspaper, beading or mastic sealant, which you can buy from high street retailers.
Wash The Blues Away
A shower uses, on average, only two fifths of the hot water needed for a bath. If you don’t have a fitted shower, consider a special attachment for your bath taps. They’re widely available and cost from just £5.
Also, ensure that your taps are not dripping and that the seals are replaced regularly. A dripping tap is money wasted down the drain.
