Bulk Tank Maintenance

There are maintenance checks that need to be observed for your LPG bulk tank, to ensure that safety remains the number one priority.

» LPG Bulk Tanks - Maintenance

The gas tank and fittings installed on the tank are Calor’s property, with Calor being responsible for regular maintenance. The cost of this service is covered within the standing charge which includes the following:

  • Before and during every tank refill our highly skilled drivers will carry out a range of important safety and maintenance checks.
  • As safety is a number one priority at Calor, we always replace vital components well within their working lifetime and the driver will complete a safety check prior to filling.
  • Periodic inspection and testing of the tank to ensure safety standards are maintained.
  • Should a fault be detected, we will arrange for a Gas Safe® Register (formerly CORGI) Calor approved contractor to carry out the necessary remedial work, as soon as possible, at no cost to you.
  • All maintenance processes are carried out by Calor’s Inspection Team which is approved and continually audited by the ‘United Kingdom Advisory Service’ (UKAS).
  • Calor operates a Gas Emergency Service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Just call 0845 7 444 999 if you have any concerns.

» Underground Tanks

  • All tanks are to be checked every time they are filled up. While your tank is being filled, the driver will inspect the valves and cover.
  • The driver will also check the ground above the tank for any sign of damage.
  • Your driver will check that the green marker pegs are in place, (please ensure the marker are kept in the original location) and that the area is kept clear and in its original state.
  • Calor engages a specialist contractor to carry out an annual inspection to check that the tank’s corrosion protection system is operating satisfactorily.

» Looking After The Site

To enable us to provide a continuous trouble-free gas supply, there are several ways you can help:

  • Please do not paint the gas tank or any of the equipment.
  • Ensure that you adhere to the siting and safety recommendations explained in the relevant sections on this web site.
  • Ensure the area surrounding the tank and equipment is kept in good condition and is hazard-free with no overgrown vegetation.
  • Don’t allow vehicles to approach too near to an installation.
  • Do not allow anybody to interfere with or move the tank.
  • In the interests of safety, please ensure dogs and other pets are restrained when a gas delivery is expected.
  • Consult us when planning an extension to your property. Advice on the tank site and pipework will help ensure that changes meet relevant industry codes of practice. Please contact your local customer services team on 0800 181 4530.

» Looking After the Pipework

  • The pipework laid from the tank installation to your home is your property, and has been specially selected for an LPG supply. Never allow non-qualified people to modify the pipework.
  • Maintenance of regulators, pipework and appliances is your responsibility.
  • Please be careful when digging around the vicinity of your underground pipework.
