Cylinders / Bottles FAQ

Ever wondered how to fit regulators; whether you can take calor cylinders abroad; or how to tell how much gas you have left in a cylinder? This cylinder section of our FAQ will help you find the answers to those queries.
Question
How can I monitor how much gas is left in a cylinder?
Calor’s 5kg and 13kg Patio Gas cylinders, are fitted with Calor's new Gas Trac - an indicator which tells you when you are running low on gas. For all other cylinders, the empty tare weight can be found on a metal disc on the shroud, this gives the weight of the cylinder in pounds and ounces. To convert this to kilograms multiply this number by 0.453592. Once you have the empty weight of the cylinder you can put it on some scales, then you will have the total weight, so you can now take the empty cylinder weight off the total, this will give you how much gas you have left in the cylinder.
I would like to exchange my cylinder for a different size, can we do this at any Calor outlet?
Yes, call your local CGD outlet on 0800 662 663 and they will be able to advise. Cylinders fall into two categories (see below), and may (subject to availability) be able to be exchanged for another cylinder within the same category free of charge. To exchange a cylinder for one in a different category, a charge may be applicable. Please contact your nearest Calor Gas outlet or call 0800 662 663 for details.
