» Energy efficiency is a key priority, especially in the newbuild sector
The UK Government’s aim to reduce total greenhouse gas emissions by 12.5 per cent by 2012 and 60 per cent by 2050 means that energy efficiency is a key priority, especially in the newbuild sector.
Legislation has already been introduced to improve energy efficiency in new build properties, for example Part L of the Building Regulations and more recently the Code for Sustainable Homes. Part L is currently being reviewed again, and it’s thought that in 2010 the standards might be raised to level three of the Code for Sustainable Homes, which calls for a 25 per cent improvement on Part L.
Finding a way to use a non-mains gas fuel for heating and hot water and still comply with legislation might seem like a minefield, but you can rest assured that satisfying legislative demands doesn’t have to be complicated, or too expensive.
Part L of the Building Regulations can be easily met using a high efficiency LPG condensing boiler and appropriate controls (whether installing a heating system in a new build or retrofit project). To comply with level three of the Code for Sustainable Homes and the predicted 2010 revisions to Part L, an installer can again specify an LPG high efficiency boiler, but it should be coupled with a renewable such as a solar thermal water-heating system or low-carbon technology.
It’s likely that in the future, new build homes will need to comply with even higher levels of the Code for Sustainable Homes. With this in mind, we are working with leading heating manufacturers and are investing in our own technologies to ensure that we continue to offer solutions for the rural community.
