» Checking LPG Pipework
The Health and Safety Executive have asked all suppliers of LPG in the UK to forward an HSE safety leaflet to all their commercial customers.
This HSE leaflet is entitled "Checking LPG pipework" and is designed to remind industrial and commercial LPG users of their responsibility for the checking and maintenance of external LPG pipework.
The HSE states that - "All LPG pipework, whether buried or not should be inspected, maintained and, when necessary, replaced." You should establish the length of time your pipe can be used safely.
You can either:
- Identify when the pipework was last checked, what was done and when the next check is due; or
- Ensure someone competent draws up an inspection and maintenance strategy

» Domestic Customers
Pipework is usually your responsibility to maintain and replace if required. (We do select the pipework and materials used to ensure suitability for your gas supply.) Some customers might have older contracts stating responsibility isn't theirs. Another exception is customers who have entered into a seperate contract for maintenance.
We offer the following advice on pipework:
- Be very careful if digging anywhere near your underground pipework
- Please ensure above ground pipework isn't covered or buried over time
If damage is suspected or if you smell gas, contact the 24-hour Calor Emergency Service on 0845 744 4999.
