Manual handling

We realise your employees’ safety will be a primary company concern, which is why we offer handy advice to ensure they’re safe and that your business adheres to health and safety law.

Regulations aim to reduce the number of injuries at work, especially those that occur when manually handling heavy products. It’s your job as an employer to carry out a risk assessment on the methods each employee uses when handling items such as LPG cylinders.

We recommend you provide your staff with some advice on the best ways to lift and move cylinders, as well as making sure you rearrange methods of working and provide effective equipment to reduce unnecessary handling. Your employees are responsible for following your instructions and using the equipment provided, so if a hazardous situation happens during work then they should have the skills to take care of themselves and others at risk.

On top of protecting your employees, you also have a responsibility to your customers. You should make sure they’re aware of the weight of each cylinder and deliver the product to them in a safe manner.
