A fifteenth century medieval moated manor house owned by the National Trust is keeping warm again thanks to the installation of Calor Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
Calor is supplying LPG to Baddesley Clinton, a medieval moated manor house situated near Solihull in Warwickshire. The UK’s leading supplier of LPG has installed a 4000-litre tank underground in order to preserve the aesthetic look of the house and its beautiful grounds, working alongside archeologists, fisheries specialists, building contractors and historians to meet stringent National Trust guidelines.
Baddesley Clinton first opened it doors to the public in 1982 and now attracts over 100,000 visitors each year. Already a Calor customer, using LPG to supply the requirements of the restaurant and other buildings on the estate, Calor is now supplying LPG to the medieval manor house itself for heating and catering.
Baddesley Clinton’s Property Manager Alan Langstaff said, “We presently use LPG to supply our restaurant needs and those of the Lodge and House Steward’s Cottage on the estate. The installation required a delicate and professional approach because of the historical significance of the house and we were pleased that Calor could install the tank underground.”
Calor Project Manager, Jordan Tree, led the team that was created for the eight-week installation project. In those eight weeks, the moat was drained so that pipework could be laid, and a 4000 litre underground tank was installed in parkland on the estate so as not to detract from the beauty of the house and grounds. Jordan said, “As the trench for the pipe approached the house, digging with any mechanical equipment was immediately stopped and the remainder of the trench were dug with hand tools. We worked alongside Warwickshire County Council archaeologists who observed the excavation process and recorded any finds made.
“It was great to work alongside a wider team of specialists to bring Calor LPG to another customer. As always, lessons learnt on this installation will be used as we continue to bring Calor LPG to non-mains gas areas.” - ends -
