Users of gas barbecues, patio heaters, portable heaters
and caravans are being urged are being urged to return empty Calor gas cylinders for which they have no immediate need as part of a campaign
to raise much-needed funds for ChildLine, the UK’s
free, 24-hour helpline for children in danger and distress.
The cylinder retrieval forms part of Calor’s year
long ‘Gift of the Gas’ fundraising campaign,
which will raise money to enable more lonely and often
frightened children to reach the comfort, advice and
protection ChildLine’s counsellors can provide.
The retrieval appeal requests that people all across
the UK sort through the contents of their garages or
sheds in the coming months to look for Calor gas cylinders
(retrieval only relates to Calor
gas cylinders and not competitor cylinder brands, see
terms and conditions below for more details). For every cylinder returned
to a participating Calor Gas Direct outlet before 31
October 2005, Calor will donate £5.00 to ChildLine.
ChildLine’s chair and founder, Esther Rantzen,
said: “Every day calls from around 2,300 children
are answered by ChildLine, but the enormous demand for
our service means that hundreds more children who may
be desperate for help are unable to get through to a
counsellor for the help they need and deserve.
“Children call ChildLine about all kinds of problems – because
they are suffering abuse, being bullied, have run away
from home or are worried about school exams. Whatever
their problems, ChildLine is there for them 24-hours
a day, every day.
“Calor is helping to raise funds for ChildLine
to ensure that more children reach the vital support,
advice and protection that our helpline counsellors provide.
Please support the ‘Gift of the Gas’ campaign
and help ChildLine to change more children’s lives.”
Calor gas cylinders can be returned to any of the participating
Calor Gas Direct outlets in the UK between 1 January
and 31 October 2005. For every cylinder returned between
these dates, Calor will automatically donate £5.00
directly to ChildLine. For further information about
