Food Lovers Invited To Share Seafood Secrets

Rural fuel specialist Calor is looking for the region’s favourite seafood recipes to mark the sponsorship of the Wells’ Golden Mussel Award for the second year running.

The 2006 awards cook-off, in which participants have to prepare a dish containing mussels as the main ingredient, will take place in December in Wells-next-the-Sea and will play a central role in the Wells Christmas Tide event.

Calor is preparing a collection of recipes to be distributed at the event and is asking for Norfolk food lovers to share their favourite seafood dishes.

Commercial market manager Sabrina Jackson says: “From professional chefs to novice cooks, we believe everyone has a favourite seafood recipe. We’d like to share those recipes with the nation and create a lasting souvenir of this popular event.”

Recipes should be submitted to goldenmussel@calor.co.uk.

The awards, to be held on 16 December, will include three categories: Professional, Open and Junior. Entry forms can be found at www.lpg-catering.co.uk/goldenmussel.

Notes to Editors:
In addition to the cook off competition there are a myriad of other attractions taking place during Well Christmas Tide, which are hoped to include traditional Norfolk Music, hot cider and other drinks, carols, and a waterborne Santa, while the darkness of winter is offset by a display of illuminations throughout the town from shop fronts to boats. Visit www.wellschristmastide.org.uk for more information.

The cook off competition itself will be hosted by Chris Coubrough, formerly Vice Chairman of Master Chefs of Great Britain and owner of the Crown Hotel in Wells. Chris also presents Imago TV’s ‘Coastal Kitchen’ seafood cooking series to be broadcast on Anglia and Discovery Channel May 2007.

Calor, the UK’s leading supplier of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and sponsor of the event has a long history of supporting rural communities. The company has been supplying homes and businesses with LPG cylinders and bulk tanks for over 70 years and is proud to have been awarded a Business in the Community (BITC) 2005 PerCent Standard. The BITC accreditation was launched by HRH the Prince of Wales in 1986 and is awarded to companies whose contributions to the community exceed 1% of pre-tax profits.
