Press Release 12/01/12 - Calor bringing leading UK energy organisations to Exeter with official announcement of new partnerships and certification. Energy supplier cements its commitment to becoming a full Energy Services Company with reception for service providers

» Reception

Calor Gas, the UK’s leading supplier of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), hosts a reception today (Thursday 12 January) to launch key partnerships with the Energy Saving Trust and Mark Group, and to celebrate Calor’s achievement of the Carbon Trust Standard.

The reception is being held at its Rural Energy Centre on Alphinbrook Road, Marsh Barton, Exeter. The Centre was opened in November 2011 to help consumers find out more about renewable energy options available to help cut emissions and, potentially, save money. It’s a pilot initiative for Calor Gas and a first for any rural energy supplier.

Sales and Marketing director of Calor Gas Ltd, Susan Kinnaird, will be accepting the company’s recently achieved Carbon Trust Standard certification, endorsement from the Energy Saving Trust and publicly announcing the company’s partnership with Mark Group.

» Carbon Trust Standard

Calor was recently awarded the Carbon Trust Standard, which certifies organisations for genuine achievements in carbon reduction and commitment to on-going reductions. Carried out by independent third-party assessors, it assesses corporate carbon performance in three key areas: carbon footprint measurement, carbon management and carbon reduction performance.

It involved a detailed analysis of Calor’s carbon management system as well as site inspections and interviews with a range of staff members to understand how the company undertakes its carbon management. Examples of energy saving initiatives were investigated from inception to instigation as well as evidence of monitoring their impact.

Henry Garthwaite, Head of Business Development, Carbon Trust Certification, said:

“Calor’s focused, sustained approach to carbon reduction will afford it major dividends in terms of cost efficiencies and reputational benefits. We are pleased to be helping Calor Gas to demonstrate its reputation for good carbon management by successfully measuring, managing and reducing its carbon emissions over the last three years.”

» Energy Saving Trust accreditation

Calor’s sales and customer service staff recently undertook extensive training from the Energy Saving Trust in order to be able to give customers energy efficiency advice to help them make the best decision when it comes to their energy requirements.

Ian Hutchcroft, Head of South England, The Energy Saving Trust, said: “Householders are bombarded with offers and advice on energy efficiency from hundreds of sources and in many cases people do not know which way to turn. We’ve worked closely with the Calor team, providing them with the right skills and knowledge to give their customers trusted advice on energy efficiency that is tailored to their needs. Our endorsement means that Calor staff will continue to receive our support, giving them access to the latest research to pass on to customers.”

» Mark Group partnership

A partnership with the leading installer of home insulation and renewable technology systems, enables Calor to pass on referrals nationally for home insulation. Such enquiries, which can be made via all channels including the new Energy Centre, will be handled by Mark Group following an introduction from Calor. For solar photovoltaic and thermal, Calor is running an exclusive trial centred round the Rural Energy Centre in Exeter, with installations carried out by Mark Group’s trained personnel.

Bill Rumble, Mark Group Commercial Director, added: “Calor’s move to establish itself as a full Energy Services Company and to be recognised by such prestigious organisations as the Energy Saving Trust and the Carbon Trust, makes it the perfect match for our business.

“Renewable energy technologies have particular relevance for rural communities and coupled with the correct home insulation, provide a ‘whole house’ energy saving solution. We are looking forward to developing future ideas and prospects with Calor, building on our four decades of experience in the industry.”

The new accreditations, endorsements and partnerships mark Calor’s expansion from the country’s leading supplier of LPG (the lowest carbon-emitting fossil fuel available in rural areas) to a full Energy Services Company, supplying a range of energy-efficient products and services.

» Comments

Susan Kinnaird, Sales and Marketing Director of Calor Gas Ltd, said:

“Rural households can now turn to Calor for a whole-house approach to energy efficiency, including tailored and impartial advice from experts endorsed by the Energy Saving Trust and insulation and solar solutions delivered by Mark Group, safe in the knowledge that Calor itself is doing all it can to reduce its own carbon footprint.

“We’re delighted to be working alongside the Energy Saving Trust and the Mark Group and proud of our recent Carbon Trust Standard certification. It is fitting that we mark these relationships in Calor’s first Energy Centre, which cements our continued dedication to addressing the Government’s environmental commitments. Calor LPG is already the lowest carbon fossil fuel available in the countryside and has a huge part to play in delivering the UK’s low carbon energy future, but by embracing renewables and insulation we can present rural householders with the low carbon solution that is right for their property and is affordable within their budgets.”

» Final

By providing a new range of renewable energy products and services, Calor customers are now able to take advantage of Government incentive schemes, such as Feed in Tariffs (FIT), the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) and, from autumn 2012, the Government’s flagship Green Deal programme.
